Today I write to you from the words of The Rasmus in the song Not Like The Other Girls. It is said:

The world has forsaken my girl

I heard this song today after I dropped you back home and I saw you disappear behind the gates. Prima facie, this song seems to be about a girl who is disappearing. But I think that perspective just adds a touch which we can all learn from.

Where everyone else sees distance, silence or space, I see you for who you are – you are processing, you are growing, you are evolving. Which is why this song is so befitting. Because you literally are Not Like The Other Girls. Or rather I should be saying – You are not like any other girl in this world.

I love you for the unique way you are. My little snowflake. You know why I say to you that I live in the spaces between your heartbeat? It is because it is in those moments of silence that you say more than you do even as compared to when you are screaming.

There was a version of me. That cared, that jumped, that just scooped up to protect. I killed that part of me. Because no one wanted to be cared that way. No one wanted me to jump. No one wanted me to be their knight in shining armour. So I had white knight lay down his arms.

And then I met you. And I saw you. You said – leave me alone, that knight brought the cavalry. You said – give me space, that knight built a fort around you. You said – this is all too much, that night sat down next to you and held you and whispered – I do all of this because you deserve all this… and more.

I feel a higher sense of purpose in being with you on this journey. Like I protect you on the path to make sure you don‘t lose your way. I walk close behind you as your ethereal glow falls on the path.

And the most important part. What loving you is teaching me is that not all love ends. I found love that stays. I found love that gives and not just takes. I found love that helps me grow. I found love that nurtures. I found love that doesn’t fade. I found love that forms this moat around me protecting me.

I found in you, the most beautiful kind of love. The fall asleep in each others arms kind of love. The do the dance while making pancakes for breakfast kind of love. The sing along to the songs in the car with the kids kind of love. The hold wrinkled hands and walk to the pier everyday kind of love.

I found my forever girl in you.
