A grey tee,
Washed too many times,
Stretched in too many directions,
Clings delicately onto your slender body.
Lustrous hair meanders around your neck,
Gently onto your bosom,
Terminating at your belly.
You’re looking down,
A single lucky strand of hair,
Gets toyed with playfully.
Deep in thought,
Of the weights left to carry,
Yet there’s a lightness about you.
The same journey,
The same path,
The same destination.
Only now you know,
Where you can find shelter,
When the sun beats down.
Where you can find warmth,
When the cold of the night comes tumbling down.
The long lunches, in our car,
The cozy brunches, holed up in our room,
The endless conversations, till the break of dawn,
Now boiled down to infinite seconds, on two screens.
Close enough to watch that single strand of hair fall,
Too far away to tuck it behind your ear.
The distance grows,
But so does the closeness.
The time together a whisper now,
But how much we have of each other
Continues to grow.
My heart screams,
Why? Why does it have to be so difficult?
What it really weeps is,
Is it the beginning of the end?
Or the end of the beginning?
Priorities, goals and destinations,
Now illuminating our converging paths.
A moment of pure endearing innocence,
Lights up my screen and my world.
I steal that special moment,
To treasure in my heart.
